Bettina Ehrhardt

Bettina Ehrhardt

Since the mid-1990s, I have been directing and producing documentaries under the name bce films. They have taken me into very different worlds – to Sherpas in the Himalayas, to the Tuareg in the Sahara, to Cape Horn, and to the Vodoun tradition in West Africa. My films explore climate change and the Flying Rivers of the Amazon, freedom and social responsibility.

A central focus of my work is music – classical and contemporary – and the people who shape it: composers, conductors and festival directors.

I studied Romance languages and literature, linguistics and semiotics, philosophy, art history and film in Hamburg, Munich and Lyon. I graduated from Université Lumière Lyon 2 with a Maîtrise de lettres modernes, writing my thesis on Henri Michaux.

My films have been made for and in co-production with ARTE, ZDF, WDR, SWR, BR, 3sat, SRF, SVT, Radio-Canada, ARTV and RAI.

I wrote travel features, book reviews and film reviews for the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

I live in Munich and Berlin.
