Markus Hinterhäuser
A Pianist is leading the Salzburg Festival
A portrait of pianist Markus Hinterhäuser during his first year as artistic director of the Salzburg Festival, 2017. His program was a deeply personal statement - poetic and political at once. Through encounters with Peter Sellars, Shirin Neshat, Teodor Currentzis, William Kentridge, Matthias Goerne and Igor Levit, the film reveals how Hinterhäuser's ideas take shape in dialogue with artists and gradually coalesce into a festival program. Hinterhäuser wishes for an audience that is a curious counterpart - open to the moment when the spark leaps.
